Sometimes, it’s the winning that counts

Our teams love it when schemes they have worked on receive public recognition and, in recent months, two have won major awards.

The Hillingdon Street project by Wandle Housing Association, for which we provided Principal Designer, Employer’s Agent and Aftercare services, was named ‘Best Small Development’ at the National Housing Awards.

St Alban’s Museum received the Retrofit for the Future award and was highly commended as Project of the Year at the Building Futures Awards. Silver’s involvement here was as Principal Designer, working with Willmott Dixon for St Alban’s City and District Council.

Silver’s H&S team goes from strength to strength

As Assistant Health & Safety Adviser, Rob Walsh has been a valuable member of the team since joining us in December 2017. His extensive experience and expertise has now been officially recognised with the achievement of two further NEBOSH qualifications.

One qualification was in Fire Safety and Risk Management and the other in Construction H&S. With these under his belt, he has also gone on to successfully complete the Associated Project & Safety (APS) Principal Designer course. He is already a member of IOSH.

We would like to congratulate Rob on his achievement. It’s a further demonstration of our commitment to providing everyone who joins Silver with a tailor-made training and career plan that will help them to progress.

As Rob says, “The training plan at Silver was well structured and I worked at the right pace to complete my studies and final exams. My training builds on my knowledge and increases my confidence.”

Its aim is to raise standards and encourage reform and its publication every September is an important date in the political calendar. Silver was honoured to be invited to appear in the Construction and Engineering edition, alongside contributions from Secretaries of State , Ministers, MPs and leading commentators. Collaborating to raise quality standards in the industry

The Housing Forum launched its latest report “Stopping Building Failures” at their Annual Conference on 23rd May 2018 and is an excellent practical response to the Hackitt report, Building a Safer Future.

Stopping Building Failures is a great source of practical guidance, packed with expert commentary and case studies for clients and construction teams. Silver is a proud contributor to this collaboration by The Housing Forum’s cross-sector membership.

Martin Ward, our Director of Quality Management and Aftercare was keen to apply his 30 years’ experience of ensuring high quality standards of workmanship and participated in workshops leading to the report's  recommendations made for building defect free homes.

Darren Nolan, Associate Director at Silver, is author of the case study  has written an article “Getting What You Want” based on his 20 years pre-construction knowledge and experience and provides practical advice on what should and should not happen during the crucial early stages of a project.

We are delighted to welcome Paul Roberts to Silver, who joins us as Associate Director. Paul is a Chartered Surveyor with 35 years’ experience in the construction sector, and has worked across a diverse range of schemes that include large scale regeneration, joint ventures and refurbishment.

To ensure that we have the right team to take our business forward, we have reorganised and strengthened our management structure. Apart from making promotions from those whose careers have developed at Silver, the changes ensure that our senior people are available to act as mentors.

Our Board of Directors comprises Tony Iannaccone as CEO, Brian Middle as Chairman, and Sarah Odell as MD, and Peter Mack has now joined them as Board Director, Commercial & Development.

Mathew Fenner is now Operations Director with responsibility for ensuring that we continue to meet the highest standards in the delivery of our services. He is supported by Darren Nolan as Assistant Director and by a team of experienced Managing Associates.

Making a Difference for The Samson Centre for Multiple Sclerosis

The Samson Centre for Multiple Sclerosis is a small, independent charity providing free, practical and emotional support for people living with Multiple Sclerosis in Surrey and surrounding areas. 

MS is the most common neurological disease affecting young adults today. A disease of the central nervous system which baffles neurologists, involves pharmaceutical companies investing millions of pounds in clinical trials and still leaves sufferers without a cure. MS can affect mobility, sight, bladder control, speech and so much more. The Samson Centre offers practical solutions that assist in managing the effects of this lifelong and debilitating disease. Each year it provides some 3,500 physiotherapy treatments, 2,500 gym sessions, 4,000 exercise classes and 2,500 oxygen therapy sessions. But, it is not enough. Since the Samson Centre opened twelve years ago, demand for their services has grown by around 10% year on year. No longer able to keep pace with this increase, sadly there are now waiting lists for some of their therapies.

Over the next twelve months, Silver will be providing our skills in project management for the Samson Centre’s planned extension and saving the charity thousands of pounds in consultancy fees whilst ensuring they get the result that they really deserve.
